Margaret Sneddon, Harpist

Instruction
Update - Margaret has retired from teaching but the harp program continues at Mozartina Musical Arts Conservatory under the direction of her long time colleague and friend, Mia Theodoratus.
In addition to her busy schedule of weddings, special events and therapeutic music, Margaret has taught many students of all ages - she is fond of saying "from seven to seventy". She is qualified to give instruction in both "Celtic" or folk harp and pedal harp. She studied for many years with Ruth Negri Armato of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and was trained in the Grandjany or "French" method. However, she can also give guidance in the Salzedo method and prides herself in tailoring her instruction to the individual student, working with their personal strengths and gently focusing on areas needing special attention. She also makes a point of working on ensemble playing and helping students overcome performance anxiety. Margaret teaches primarily at Mozartina Musical Arts Conservatory in Tarrytown, NY and also at the Rivertown Arts Council in Hastings.
Prior to her career at sea, Margaret founded and directed the Hudson Harp Consort, an ensemble of harps ranging in size from 21 string lap harps to a 48 string concert grand. Joined on occasion by flute, fiddle, and hammered dulcimer, this group had a truly magical sound and has performed in locations as diverse as the Westchester County Center and the special concert programs at Union Church of Pocantico Hills, Christ Episcopal Church, Tarrytown Methodist Church, the Historical Society of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, and Lyndhurst Mansion.
The Hudson Harp Consort is now offered as part of the curriculum for pedal and lever harp students at Mozartina Musical Arts Conservatory in Tarrytown. All ages and skill levels are welcome. We will work on ensemble and performance techniques and develop a repertoire to be presented in a recital at the end of the semester. We will focus on learning new music, sight-reading, playing together, overcoming performance anxiety, and having fun! The class will meet at the school on the third Wednesday of every month. Participation will be included in the tuition of private students at the Conservatory. Tuition for non-students will be $265.00 for the semester.
